How Security Rounding Impacts Resident Safety & Satisfaction

Most people who are familiar with medical facilities have heard the term rounding. Doctors, nurses and pharmacists make their rounds to see, diagnose and treat patients effectively while also creating a personalized touch.

Not only does this maximize the provider's time, but it makes for an efficient way for an entire care team to monitor a patient continuously.

It's not too different when it comes to security at a senior living facility, and rounding is a critical piece to your residents' safety and satisfaction.

Security rounding sets aside a specific time and place for security officers to stay up to date on a variety of areas throughout a community.

What types of activities would a security officer do on a typical round? Here are a few examples:

  • Check key points inside and outside of buildings
  • Identify and report security threats
  • Create work orders from potential issues
  • Be on the scene for incidents with residents, such as a fall

Faster & better reporting on incidents

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every 11 seconds, a senior suffers a fall serious enough to send them to the emergency room. In addition, falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults.

If a resident has had a fall or other safety incident, then it is critical that your staff be there as soon as possible. It is also important to capture all of the details of what happened and why to help them get the medical care they need.

Mobile security software can help protect your residents from falls (by empowering your staff to identify and remove hazards), as well as create quick reporting capabilities for when an incident occurs on your property.

Tie back to satisfaction

So, what does all of this have to do with your residents being satisfied with their level of care and contributing to increased retention at your community? A lot, actually.

I've used three different maintenance management programs, and it was by far the easiest one to use. It’s the most user friendly program that I’ve seen.

After all, you are protecting their home, and when you do that well, they will know and so will their families. This trickle-down can create a unique opportunity for word of mouth to become a powerful marketing channel for your community, as well as improve your reputation.

It all starts with equipping your staff with the technology and tools they need to execute consistent and detailed security rounding.
