SchoolDude client Irving Independent School District’s Donna Amick, operations and special events manager, wrote an article that was featured in TASBO Report, the official magazine of Texas ASBO’s May 2013 issue.
In Donna’s article “Open for Business,” she uses her personal experience to offer key tips for implementing a successful facility rental program. Here are 3 of the tips she provided:
Find out the goals your school board and administration have set for the facility usage program.
Fees should be based on actual utility costs, and should cover the cost of utilities and labor.
Remain consistent (fees, building access, etc.) with groups that are similar.
Donna’s article provides valuable insight for any school interested in increasing revenue and recovering the costs of facility usage. Research shows that schools that employ a cost recovery program recover an average of $18 per student annually.
