The Operations Proficiency Model (OPM) is a performance measurement model specifically developed as a framework and a tool to facilitate the identification of continuous improvement initiatives for leaders responsible for maintaining and operating schools and higher education institutions. A key goal for developing the OPM model was to facilitate benchmarking operational performance against peer institutions. Benchmarking is the process of comparing the performance of one organization against a peer or group of organizations, typically, but not exclusively within a target industry. This exercise is performed through a disciplined process of comparing a set of clearly defined and industry-accepted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the target group. Benchmarking goals include identifying industry best practices along with specific improvement opportunities for the individual participants.
SchoolDude launched our Dude Data Dashboard in 2013 as an industry benchmarking tool for SchoolDude clients. The Dashboard currently includes 23 Key Performance Indicators. An illustration is included below.
Please check back for new OPM blog posts in the days and weeks ahead. We published a book with details on the Operations Proficiency Model and supporting methodologies in 2013. Please plan to join us for one of our OPM sessions at SchoolDude University, April 5th – 9th, or visit our OPM webpage for additional details.
