Energy Experts from two schools recently converged on an energy management webinar for SchoolDude Nation. Dan Caley with Rogers Public Schools in Arkansas and Armando Guerrero with Frenship ISD in Texas shared a wealth of knowledge, and both advocated for addressing low-hanging fruit, noting that the savings can be surprising.
Asked for a list of places to start, Armando suggested:
And don't overlook the importance of leading by example when asking your students, faculty, and staff to make behavioral changes.
And the audience chimed in with their own low-hanging fruit:
Gregory Berrier at Winston-Salem-Forsyth County Schools in North Carolina suggested taking light bulbs out of vending machines.
John Kennedy at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Florida added that his school has addressed
He also shared that they retrofit lighting 5 years ago, from T12 and magnetic ballasts to T8 and electronic, and saved $6000 monthly. They are now preparing to retrofit to all LED in the coming year.
