I've worked on the marketing team at SchoolDude since 2013. I currently am the Public K-12 Marketing Manager and serve the Public K-12 market with helpful resources and trends that can help them in their day-to-day work. I work closely with the sales organization and several other departments to ensure clients and the public have a clear understanding of what SchoolDude does and the benefits our solutions provide to educational institutions. It’s exciting to work in marketing everyday and see clients succeed and schools benefit from using SchoolDude. I grew up in Virginia and graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Business- Wahoowa!
Technology Directors at districts and campuses are responsible for countless items – help desk tickets, managing the network, and even facilities software that the Maintenance department uses. Last month, we focused on one of these responsibilities – IT asset management. On March 25, a SchoolDude technology expert, along with the Technology Director from Middletown Public Schools, hosted the webinar, Today’s Trends in IT Asset Management, providing peer guidance and best practices.
Stay tuned over the coming weeks for tips and next steps to automate your asset management process. Today, we will share the trends in school technology that were discussed on the webinar. These results are based on a survey conducted last year of IT Directors and technicians from schools across the country.
What are the trends?
This tells us that A LOT of technician time and productivity is lost. Technicians spend up to a week simply identifying and confirming the status and location of their institution’s assets. This time could be better spent helping customers with technology issues and proactively identifying problems.
A large majority of survey respondents are having trouble properly budgeting and planning to know what assets will need to be replaced or repaired in the next 5 years.
With such a high number of IT Departments seeing assets go missing, it raises the question - Are 1:1 programs sustainable for the school and its budget?
How can IT departments add money back to their budget by better monitoring software license agreements?
We hear from institutions of all sizes, including stories from our bi-annual professional development conference, SchoolDude University, that Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiatives hugely impact unauthorized software installs and viruses on the network.
These trends from your peers reveal a lot about what keeps Technology Directors up at night when it comes to proper asset management.
Check back next week for more on how a streamlined asset management process can address the challenges mentioned above and how Middletown Public Schools’ Technology Director solved his challenges! Visit this page to watch the webinar recording now.
