With the release of updates to the Dude Solutions website, one of our next major focuses will be the Dude Community. Our major initiatives over the upcoming months will include:
Let’s take the last item first. SchoolDude originated the Community and built an impressive repository of articles, discussions, answers and ideas. The overwhelming majority of the content is still great, yet needs refinement to:
Some titles of articles, discussions, etc. can be too generic and need clarification. This limits what a search result can provide you. The result of generic titles are often users inadvertently create duplicate items to get a response vs. getting an immediate answer for their need.
Example: you want to find examples around the subject of “survey”. When you see the titles of results, you would want to know what is around satisfaction surveys vs. building surveys vs. safety inspection surveys.
Content requires users to add a “tag” or category. This is a major element of the Community because it allows additional options for users to filter searches. Additionally, many pages in the website will display “related content” based upon similar categories. If a category is too specific or has only one category, a display of related content and searches for content becomes limited.
An example of what we plan to update: 57 categories have been created over the years around “reporting” (e.g., report vs. reports vs. energy report vs. reporting). We will begin to edit the 57 varieties to become a singular instance of Reporting and will verify additional tags to clarify the type of reporting (e.g., maintenance or energy).
Related content: What are examples of tags/categories the Dude is using?
If you have submitted items that we edit, you may get a notification your item was updated. If your item was moved, it will still be in your history for easy access and the old web links redirect to the new one.
More than a visual update to the interface, we are focusing on how you engage in the interface. In coordination with updates to the content, we will provide easier ways to get to information you need.
Related content, filtering content, linking of content and handy tips on searching content are in the enhancement works to provide an immersive experience in addition to a new visual experience.
Why are we expanding the Community? Everyone needs answers, everyone needs an outlet and everyone has something to share to help their peers.
Your “economics engine”, your requirements, your mandates, what you produce and who you serve has variances. Yet, as Jim Collins elaborates in excerpts from GOOD TO GREAT AND THE SOCIAL SECTORS, your professional cultures have similar professional needs, experiences and focuses.
Unsure? We dove down into data to see where the parallels are and how an expanded Community with a updated focus can help.
Some of you have similar types of assets. Many of you encounter comparable themes around managing properties. Everyone works with people and wants to build a proud legacy of their efforts. One contribution from a peer could revolutionize how you manage, how you maintain or how you lead.
The Dude Community supports the overall mission of better work for better lives. Our current initiatives to update and expand the Community is part of our goal to better deliver insights, best practices, ideas, connections to peers and to information focused on the outcome of making a positive difference in your organization, your professional life and in the communities you serve.
