In many of our discussions and presentations, we talk about the politics of community use, tracking afterhour events and recovering costs from the use of school facilities, but some stories from our clients hit a deeper mark. Here is an example.
At the start of the school year, one of the district schools had a serious bomb scare. The facility use coordinator and the emergency respondents accessed the public calendar and there were only a few events listed. However, as they walked the building to clear the “booked rooms”, they found:
The amount of time to clear everyone from the building increased drastically because of the fact they weren’t made aware of all the events taking place. Most fireman will check the whole building in all situations, but it would have been nice to tackle the “booked areas” first.
The Superintendent caught wind and it is now required to enter every after-hours event into FSDirect for approval in case of an emergency in the future.
In addition, it was found that some teachers that were providing “private" tutoring were providing it at a "private" cost...that was against district policy.
