Random question - What does everyone use for playground surfacing? We are currently using shredded wood chips (FIBAR) that is 1' deep to provide safe impact surface for kids playing on equipment (if they were to fall) ... Costs of FIBAR keep creeping up ($25/Cubic Yd currently. Our supplier says don't be surprised to see $40 within a few years) ... and we are constantly spending tons of money annually getting orders of wood chips to refill playgrounds. In a perfect world, our custodians are out raking the playgrounds once a week to help keep it fluffed up, but our work requests demonstrate that's not happening to the extent that we would like. So to provide some options for the big wigs, we're starting to look at artificial turf surfaces for playgrounds, to see if the cost/benefit analysis works and what the payback would be if we stopped using the wood chips.
Just curious as to what else others may be doing.
